April 26, 2009: Week 8
Congratulations to Rich Schleich for winning Week 7 of Cowrite and turning in a tightly written entry filled with great cinematic action. The conclusion to Rich’s pages set the stage for a very interesting end of Act 2.
Rich’s entry ended with Cable recapturing the data prism and apprehending Walters and Ava and with Jonas, Freddie and Nora feeling compelled to do their best to save them. So…where to take the story from here?
It seems all the pieces are finally in place for Cable to accomplish whatever he initially set out to accomplish. He has the obsidian, the data prism and Julian. So, what is his next step? What has this all been about for Cable and Helen and how will they proceed from here? What’s the urgency to them completing their plan and, more importantly, what new, unexpected complications will arise to hinder the completion of these plans? Also, how will Cable deal with the repercussions of the hell he raised with Conquest? Does he have the power to suppress an investigation? Or is there someone above him involved that has the ability to shield him from punitive action? Or perhaps, for whatever reason, Cable is not concerned about the repercussions.
On Jonas’ end, how does he intend to save Walters and Ava? Will he continue to let Freddie and Nora help or will he cast them aside for their own safety and proceed on his own? We have a great opportunity for Jonas to either do some really cool Jason Bourne type stuff or perhaps to commit some Jonas Bernstein, awkward teenager type mistakes. Either way, by the end of Act 2 all should seem lost for Jonas and you should get to that point via unexpected, interesting conflicts.
As always, feel free to heed these suggestions or ignore them completely. The best submission will win out regardless.
Lastly, I’ve recently read posts and had some questions about what the rewrite will entail so I wanted to quickly address that. We do not envision any specific limitations for the rewrite. Basically, it will entail whatever Benderspink and Cowrite think is necessary to sell the script. Selling the Cowrite script has always been and remains the end goal. No matter the script changes, all the winning writers will split the proceeds of any sale so there’s definitely a lot of potential money for the winners.
Good luck with your next 10-15 pages! We’re eager to see where you take the story from here!
